Doctoral Extern

Sophie Schanzer, B.A., is currently pursuing her PsyD in school psychology at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. She is interested in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Sophie completed her undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in the S. Daniel Abraham Honors Program at Stern College for Women, Yeshiva University. Throughout college, she worked as a counselor and lead counselor in various summer treatment programs, including the Child Mind Institute Summer Program for children who have ADHD, autism, and ODD, NYU’s Camp Courage for children who have selective mutism, and Riding the Wave Therapeutic Summer Camp for children who have anxiety and OCD. Sophie also conducted a study for her undergraduate honors thesis to determine the effect of episodic future thinking of students’ academic, career, and relationship goals. After graduating college, Sophie was a psychology intern for one year at Salanter Akiba Riverdale Academy in the Early Learning Center. In this position, Sophie led social skills groups, helped children who struggled with behavioral challenges in the classroom, guided students with difficulties in peer play, and participated in meetings with the school psychologist and administrative faculty. 


Sophie is looking forward to continuing her education and training at Rutgers University and is currently learning evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
